Johnny Mandel's 80th Birthday

Later this month will be the 80th birthday of composer Johnny Mandel. On my radio show here in Melbourne, I'll be celebrating the day with an hour (plus) of Johnny's tunes, interpreted by some outstanding players including Zoot Sims, Cal Tjader and Bill Watrous (who also contributed some positive comments about Mandel). So, my question to all is - has Phil ever recorded any of Mandel's music, and, if so, on what CD/LPs ?

I really want to have Phil in the Mandel segment, if possible. I've already had a cursory look thru my Woods collection but haven't turned up anything yet. It could be on a recording not under Phil's name but where he is featured.

Ideas?

(Also, did Mandel write Straight Life, or Art Pepper?).

That will be a great show!

As far as Phil and Mandel, the only thing I could think of was to use the search feature on the website's Discography. I got 4 hits. That might get you started.

"Straight Life" was written by Pepper on the changes of "After You've Gone."
