Long timee, no talkee. Hope the year has been prosperous and healthy for you, your friends and family.
I have had a question about Phil's playing that has been distracting me for over twenty years. I just was about to PM Phil, when my nerves went cold, largely because I know little of his life, and thought he might take offense or think me a fool not to suffer. From what I can gather from the forum, you and he are friends. So, if you are completely
comfortable with this, my question is this: it seems that after Phil hit 50 his playing became increasingly deliberate,with less of the searing abandon that seemed so much a part of the Phil Woods experience. Was this an artistic decision, and if so what was it? Or did other factors come into play? If this is someplace you don't want to go, or if you feel Phil wouldn't take offense or go ballistic on me if I went directly to him, let me know.
