Song For Sass

"Song for Sass" was written for the Divine One, Miss Sarah Vaughn, after her death. I was on the road with her in '56 with the Birdland All-Stars (Al Cohn, Conte Candoli, Kenny Durham and Sass's rhythm section.) No limos for Sass! - she always rode the bus with the cats because she was one of the cats. We were planning to do something together when she was taken ill. Man! She could sing. This is a Bossa Nova type of tune. Recorded it with the recent Alto Summit with Vince Herring and Antonio Hart, two great altoists.
