Goodbye Mr. Evans
This is as close as I have ever gotten to a hit. (Except for making Billy Joel a star!) Ahmad Jamal, Tommy Flanagan, Kirk Lightsey, Bill Mays, and Scott Hamilton have recorded the song; Scott recorded it with a large orchestra and a great arrangement by Alan Broadbent. Steve Allen liked the song so much he put a lyric to it. So far no one has sung it. When Bill died it was a tragic loss to the music world and a traumatic event for his family and friends, of which I was one. We were talking about doing a project together. This song took over a year to complete. The gestation period was lengthy and arduous. I think it is one of my best.

jeff stab (Sunday, 16 November 2008) Rating: I am interested in using this w/ my big band but obviously I do not have access to Mr. Woods (or an extra alto). Is there a recommendation for using 2 altos(not three), 2 tenors and a bari in the sax section?
