Scott Austin (Friday, 27 January 2012) Rating: Amazing and challenging piece. This is what Phil Woods sounds like when his improvising genius is allowed to slow down and put pen to paper. The band
of some of the best around still has a few places where attacks are a bit tentative. So its not an easy piece but is it beautiful. Every movement from
a mysterious open of dischordant violins to the final movement that closes with one of the most firey swinging down and dirty blues alto solos over a
large ensemble you will ever hear. Perfect marks all round for Phil both writing and playing. Some idiot on a vintage record site rated this piece
behind the standards Phil does on the album. Make no mistake his rendition of Body and Soul and Mimi (on Soprano) are materpieces, but Phil's writing
and playing on the Sun Suite you will never forget. -S. Austin
